    Description
    A VERY RARE SIGNED AND DATED 18TH CENTURY AMERICAN SAMPLER FROM LITCHFIELD, CT IN GREAT OLD AND BRIGHT COLORS AND WONDERFUL WORKMANSHIP.
    MULTI-COLORED WOOL THREAD ON A SILK BACK STILL ATTACHED TO ITS ORIGINAL PINE STRETCHER AND STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL PAINTED FRAME.
    A VERY RARE FULLY INTACT 18TH CENTURY SAMPLER.
    SIGNED AND DATED "SARAH KEYS LITCHFIELD 1782".
    A fantastic early 18th century sampler in wonderful colors.
    It has en embroidered flower boarder with an unusual offset square center with a nice sentiment.
    It is signed and dated at the bottom.
    All the writing is in black and the floral decoration is polychrome.
    This great sampler has never been off its original pine stretchers and the original rose head nails attaching it are still intact.
    It is still in its original gold painted wood frame as well.
    The last collector added some old paper on the back to protect the sampler itself, (see photos).
    IT IS A VERY RARE SAMPLER IN NICE OLD COLORS.
    We did not research Sarah Keys but further research should be conducted.
    Great colors with only minimal fading.
    There are some very minor moth losses to the background on the extreme left side as seen in the photos but for such a rare American 18th century sampler they are acceptable.
    The Frame is about 19 1/2" square and the sampler is 12 1/2" square.
    WE HAVE NOT REMOVED THE PIECE FROM THE FRAME.
