    Description

LOVELL WOODEN CLOTHES WRINGER RIVAL MODEL 100. This is a vintage piece of Americana, when clothes washing was an all day event.  Item is 15 inches wide, 28 if you stretch to handle extended and 17 inches tall. The script indicates that it would handle a 10 inch wide piece of fabric and rollers are in tact.  The wording on the piece is clear and in remarkably good condition, given that it was used in a family that had  4 children residing at home.  I hesitate to call it an antique, as I can not confirm the exact date of manufacturing.  Lovell was one of he largest manufacturers of household goods around the turn of the century, and its factory is on the list of historic places.  Some of the items from the company are in the Smithsonian's registry.  The company was founded by a veteran of the Union Army of the Civil War and had multiple patents to its credit, including a manual cash register, spring mattresses, and other household goods.  This is a piece of Americana, albeit a small representation.
